Babe Ruth was a Knight.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth, a man of extreme behaviors, saint and sinner, and perhaps the greatest baseball player of all time, was also famously kind and generous and loving to children. He joined the Pere Marquette Council 271 of the Knights of Columbus in Boston in 1919. He frequently participated in Knights of Columbus charity events, and fundraising while on barnstorming tours. For example, he visited with more than 1,000 children at a Knights of Columbus News Year’s Eve charity party outside Chicago in the late 1920’s.

Regina Coeli Council Welcomes Four New Knights of Columbus

The Regina Coeli Council of the Knights of Columbus was pleased to accept for admission four more Knights on Sunday, March 26 at an Exemplification Meeting and reception in the Family Life Center at Saints Peter and Paul.

The new members are Tom Dobbins, Sam Gerdano, and Bill Kennedy who attend Saint Michael Mission Church, and Chris Sheehan who frequents Saints Peter and Paul. Tom is the head of a trade association of municipal water authorities in Washington; Sam is an IT teacher at Saints Peter and Paul High School and Coach of its successful hockey team (state semi-finals in the both of his years); Bill is an environmental engineer and former combat Marine; and Chris also is a veteran (Army) and is a landscaper and building manager for the Army National Guard.

GOOD NEWS IS GOOD

DEACON MIKE PIEHLER LEADS KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS RETREAT

The Regina Coeli Council of the Knights of Columbus hosted on April 15 at Casa Domenico in Sherwood a “Day of Reflection”/religious retreat themed by the retreat leader Deacon Mike Piehler “Where is the Good News?”

For the 21 men of faith who participated that day, the Good News was right there -- powerful, insightful, and thought-provoking, and all thanks to Deacon Piehler and the Knights.

Deacon Piehler came in from Palm Springs, CA to lead the retreat. He has been in the ministry of the Catholic Church for more than 50 years in addition to being a highly successful businessman (he owned 15 car dealerships in upstate New York) and former teacher and football coach.

“Pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance,” he urged, “and take into your heart the reassuring acceptance of Christ. It calms you; it heals you; it makes life simpler.”

Among other highlights:

  • Our Brand Names and Our Logo – Our brand names are not Apple, Microsoft, and Nike. Our brand names are the Names of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit… and our logo is the Cross.

  • Step One – You have to admit that you need God. You need God. You accept Him into your life and ask Him to guide all things that you do.

  • Stop Digging – When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. That is the first step. Stop doing what you are doing that is so destructive. Destructive to your marriage, to your family, to your job and your finances. You know it’s destructive. You know it’s a sin. Stop doing it. Before things get worse.

Do We Have Our Act Together?

The Regina Coeli Council is one of only 26 Knights of Columbus Councils of the 147 in the State of Maryland to be awarded the designation of Star Council last year, meeting or exceeding all program, initiatives, and membership requirements.

Saints Peter and Paul Goes to Annapolis To Defend All Human Life

Wet and cold, but undaunted, Saints Peter and Paul High School students, Knights of Columbus, and parishioners provided some vocal, committed -- and very Catholic -- support for the unborn at the Maryland March For Life in Annapolis on February 27.

Led by the Saints Peter and Paul High School's head of the Department of Theology Alex Pool (who also is a Knight), 19 high school students and 18 Knights/parishioners, including Grand Knight Max Cerna and his family, took a bus from our parish to the event. Additional Knights and parishioners participated but provided their own transportation, rather than take the bus rented by the Regina Coeli Council of the Knights of Columbus and Saints Peter and Paul High School.

Besides participating in the prayer vigil and the march to the Capitol, the SSPP contingent listened to the speakers and visited with our State Senator Johnny Mautz (who also is a Knight in our parish).

In addition, Alex Pool and high schooler Mikie McHale appeared on the EWTN cable television show "Pro-Life Weekly" hosted by Prudence Robertson prior to the March to discuss our parish's actions in support of the unborn, "giving them a voice and defending life" to our legislators, as Pool advocated.

Other Pro-Life activities are planned, but Pool, the Knights of Columbus, and the parish are targeting in particular a much greater presence and involvement in the National March For Life on January 19, 2024. All will be welcome.

"For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them."

                                Matthew 18:20

Pray for the unborn and their parents.

Won’t you look down upon me Jesus,

You’ve got to help me make a stand. You’ve just got to see me through another day.
